LRCC Hosts Military Debate

Military Debate Photo: Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) Ethical Issues Honor Student, Michelle Duncan (Laconia), makes her point during LRCC’s Debate Club’s debate on the role of women in the military. Duncan was joined by Jessica Porter (Concord), Colleen Gould (Gilford), Melissa Kevlin (Northfield), and Bryn Burke (Bristol). Duncan argued that women do not belong in combat roles in the military, along with Porter. Gould, Kevlin, and Burke took the position that qualified women should not be prohibited from fulfilling any military role, including combat. The hour-long debate was moderated by LRCC Political Science Professor, Scott Cracraft (Gilford), and the public was invited to attend and ask questions after the completion of the formal presentation.

"The quality of the debate reflected the research, preparation, and passion of the participants," says LRCC Liberal Arts Professor, Dave Pollak (Laconia-not pictured), LRCC Debate Club faculty sponsor. "Questions from the audience tested the debaters who clarified their thoughts and articulated their positions with distinction. It was fun for everyone who attended."
