Personal Finance in our Troubled Economy Workshops

The economy is hitting individual’s pocketbooks harder every day and there seems little that can be done. There is, however, something people can do to get control of their personal finances. While that is easy to say, why is it that so many people find themselves sliding deeper and deeper into financial trouble? "The problem, "says Mary Snyder (Northfield), "is that many people simply don’t know how to budget."

Snyder, B.A., M.A., Director of Running Start at NHTI, and Adjunct Professor of Business at Lakes Region Community College (LRCC), will lead participants through a 3-hour workshop, The Art of Budgeting. "The goals of this workshop are to assist individuals in identifying and prioritizing personal and financial goals, assist in creating a plan to achieve those goals, and to provide practice setting up and maintaining a personal budget," continues Snyder.

Professor Snyder will be partnering with LRCC in offering a series of workshops in response to the country’s difficult economic situation. Understanding Credit, Credit Cards, Loans-Auto and Personal, Savings and Investments, and Options for Financial Trouble are a few of the upcoming topics.

"College personnel are thrilled to have Mary at LRCC working with the community," says Joe Hallgren (Belmont), LRCC Director of Workforce Development. "She is a dynamic teacher with a strong desire to help in these difficult times."

There will be two sessions of The Art of Budgeting on March 9; 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The cost is $50.00. Participants should bring to the workshop a detailed account of their spending for the previous month. To register call 524-3207.
