New Granite Sign Welcomes Students
Photo: Prospective Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) student, Amanda Wilson (Weirs Beach), poses with LRCC’s new granite sign mounted last month on Prescott Hill. The new sign, measuring 8 feet wide by 5 feet tall and weighing 5000 pounds, faces Route 106 directly and welcomes new students and guests to the College. Mounting the sign with an enormous crane were Gilbert Granite, Owner, Kevin Gilbert (Belmont), Mark Padula (Belmont), and Russell Twardosky (Belmont).
"College personnel were pleased with Gilbert Granite personnel and the sign’s placement on Prescott Hill," says LRCC Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. James Vander Hooven (Laconia), who just completed his doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Maine. "The new granite sign is due in part to a generous gift from LRCC’s 2008 graduating class."
Wilson plans to enter LRCC’s Associate of Nursing Degree Program in January, her parents being employed at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, in Worcester, MA. Wilson’s long-term desire is to become an Intensive Care Pediatric Nurse in a New Hampshire hospital.
