Center for Workforce Development
In order to find a solution to the appliance technician shortage, LRCC's Center for Workforce Development teamed with The Boston Group Service Committee and Whirlpool to develop a training program that would help to lessen the "crisis" situation in the appliance field.
As a result, we developed the Appliance Repair Institute (ARI), a combination of intensive classroom, lab or hands-on and field training. The objective of the ARI training program is to "build a technician".
This program is designed to recruit candidates from within appliance companies. Internal candidates are ideal since they have already proven they have the necessary consumer skills and company loyalty.
The purpose of the training program is to provide the candidate with the "core foundation" of common knowledge required to successfully apprentice beneath an experienced technician.
The Appliance Repair Institute is offered in two one-week sessions:
Basic - offered yearly in mid-January
Intermediate - offered yearly in mid-March
